Celebrating Ten Years of Minebea

In 2026, Minebea Intec marks ten years since relocating its UK head office to Birmingham. Over the past decade, the manufacturer of industrial weighing and inspection technology has provided solutions for customers across a range of sectors, helping businesses improve performance, safety and efficiency across their production processes.

Peter Walker, Country Manager UK & Ireland, explains how the move came about.

“We moved to Birmingham when the industrial weighing division of Sartorius was sold to Minebea Mitsumi and, as a result, we needed to move. This location would be excellent for both our customers and our colleagues in Ireland, due to the cost and frequency of flights between Dublin and Birmingham.”

The park’s location was a key part of the decision. Situated next to the NEC and just minutes away from the International Rail Station and airport, with HS2 also planned for the area, it offered easy access for customers travelling from across the country.

From 20 staff to a Growing Team

The business started small, with just 20 staff on the ground floor. Just before the pandemic, the team began assembling labelling systems in its Birmingham workshop. This led to an expansion into the upper floor expanding into the upper floor was transformed into a workshop and showroom. Today, the space plays an important role in how the team works with customers.

Customer needs have change over the past ten years, too. Peter has noticed a greater demand for testing and proof of concept, alongside tighter budgets.

“Those who do get involved seem to need more proof of concept and they have less budget,” Peter says of shifting customer behaviour. “That’s actually been good for us because we’ve got our showroom and demonstration area, so we can bring people in, prove the concept, and show them the equipment.”

The relationship with customers has also evolved, with business increasingly looking for a long-term partnership rather than simply purchasing a piece of equipment.

“They’re looking for more of a partnership now rather than just a piece of equipment. They want to know we’re going to be there for the long haul.”

Connectivity is another area that has become increasingly important. Minebea Intec’s Blue HMI provides a common interface across its machinery, making it easier for staff to move between different equipment.

“That will make staff training a lot easier,” Peter explains. “If you have somebody leaving production, someone from the warehouse will know how to operate that machinery because it’s a common interface.”

Looking ahead

The last decade has brought plenty of change, and there is more to come. In 2025, Minebea Intec launched its MiNexx® series of scales, which the UK team has been demonstrating to customers. The range will also be showcased at PPMA in Setpember 2026.

For Peter, the focus remains on working closely with customers and understanding what they need from their equipment and their supplier.

To mark the milestone, Minebea Intec is planning a series of events with partners, customers and stakeholders over the coming months.
